Suspect Sentenced For Shooting That Injured 3 At Azusa Party

On the morning of November 30th of 2014, two Azusa Police Officers heard a shooting occur a few blocks from their location. They quickly found three people had been shot at a party being held at a residence. Click here to read the original news release for this crime.

The Azusa Police Department's detectives began an investigation into this crime. Although they encountered reluctant witnesses, they proceeded through with gaining evidence and statements, which led them to the person responsible for this shooting, Louis Sapien (Age 30 from Bellflower).

The detectives arrested Sapien, and he was charged in West Covina Superior Court for violation of section 245 of the penal code, which is assault with a deadly weapon. Due to the outstanding work of the detectives in the compilation of statements, evidence and documentation, Sapien elected to take an offer from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office to spend the next 4 years in state prison.

Although the department is proud of the detectives who worked on this case, we wish to thank members of the community who provided information which assisted in the successful conviction of this suspect. Witnesses play an important role in a criminal investigation, and often times can have a solid bearing on the outcome of a case.
