Illegal Fireworks and Destructive Devices Seized

Illegal Fireworks and Destructive Devices Seized

The Azusa Police Department received a tip from a concerned resident, via the City of Azusa tip software app, regarding the possession and possible sales of illegal fireworks inside a resident's garage in the 200 Block E. Azusa Lane.

On July 1, 2015, Detectives from the Azusa Police Department, Officers from the City of Azusa Code Enforcement Department, and Investigators from the Los Angeles County Fire Department followed up on the tip. The owner of the home was contacted and approximately 850 pounds of illegal fireworks were seized from inside the garage.  The resale value of the fireworks is estimated at over $8,000.  The investigation is ongoing and charges against the homeowner may be filed at a later time with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for Possession of Destructive Devices.  The Los Angeles County Fire Department will destroy the fireworks at a later time.

The only legal fireworks allowed in the City of Azusa are “Safe and Sane” fireworks.  The possession and discharge of any illegal fireworks is strictly prohibited.  The fine in the City of Azusa for the discharge of any illegal fireworks is $1,000.
