Arson Arrest at Azusa Pacific University

On March 11, 2017 at 3:00 PM, Azusa Police Officers were dispatched to the Azusa Pacific University campus on a report of a grass fire. Upon arriving they discovered a grass area approximately 20 yards in length and width which was burning. Fire personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and put down the flames within a few minutes. As officers were examining the scene, they noticed 31 year old Jesus Moreno walking nearby. Officers saw Moreno's entire right side of his baggy button-up shirt  had clearly been burned. Officers contacted Moreno who once detained told officers he did not have a place to stay, and intentionally lit the fire to get the attention of police officers. Although his clothing was burned, he was uninjured. Moreno was arrested for felony arson and is being held in the Azusa Police Department Jail with a $50,000 bail.
