On July 17, 2018, at about 10:45 pm, Police Officers from the Azusa Police Department responded to the Rockvale Avenue pedestrian bridge on a report of a suicidal male threatening to jump off the bridge and onto the freeway. Upon arriving, the officers found a 27 year-old male Azusa resident, sitting on the outside of the bridge's security cage.

Azusa PD Police Officers attempted to speak with the man and did their best to communicate with him. The California Highway Patrol and the Glendora Police Department assisted in closing all west and east bound lanes of the freeway in the event he jumped onto the freeway. After nearly 25 minutes of negotiation and communication, Officers were able to gain a rapport with him and were able to convince him to voluntarily come down from the fence. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Azusa Police Department wants to remind everyone that if you are having suicidal thoughts or feelings and you need help, there are services available to assist you.
