Hi Luis,
There are 3 ways you can become a police officer for the Azusa Police Department. Each way is unique, and in your case, options 1 and 2 would be applicable to your situation.
Option 1
When we announce openings for Entry Level Police Officer, you can submit an application to city hall. Once we have your application, you'll be invited to participate in the hiring process. If you successfully complete the process, the city will provide your police academy training.
Option 2
In the event we are not hiring, and you wish to pursue a career in law enforcement, you can enroll in the police academy as a non-sponsored recruit. To do this, you would need to contact one of the various law enforcement academies in the state. Click here to view a list of California Peace Officers Standards And Training certified academies.
If you put yourself through the academy, and we announce openings for academy graduates, you may apply with us prior to graduation.
Option 3
If you graduate the academy and are hired by another law enforcement agency, you may still apply for a position here at Azusa PD, providing you successfully complete your probationary employment at your current department. This is referred to as a Lateral Entry Police Officer.
We're glad you are considering the Azusa Police Department as a career choice. Attached is an application for use when the time comes up!
